August 2000

No matter how hard you try, or how efficient you think your Safety and Environmental programs are, nothing sends a quicker chill through your heart than hearing those words from an inspector with a business card that reads Indiana Occupational Safety and Health, or Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
The Chamber of Commerce will host the newest networking resource for area industries: the Marshall County Safety & Environmental Council, or SEC. The first meeting will be held on September 13, 2000 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at Christo's Banquet Center in Plymouth. The goal of the Safety & Environmental Council is to provide a networking forum for businesses interested in improving workplace safety and lessening their impact on the environment.
Meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. We will be providing speakers knowledgeable in employee safety, as well as, environmental issues. The speaker for September's meeting will be George Raymond, Director of Workplace Health and Safety for the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce. George will be speaking on OSHA's new Ergonomic Standard.
If you have a particular area of expertise and would like to volunteer as a resource/speaker for one of our meetings, please contact Doug at the Plymouth Chamber or Patty Hoffer-Steele at PiRod, Inc. (936-4221), Mike Beam at Bomarko (936-9901) or Lynn Estep at Aker Plastics (936-3838).
Chamber members within Marshall County will soon be receiving further information concerning reservations for the September meeting. If you are interested in attending and do not receive a reservation form, please contact Doug at the Plymouth Chamber, 936-2323.
The Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Doug Anspach, adds, "Compliance with the ever-changing OSHA and IDEM requirements has become a challenge facing all of our major employers in Marshall County. This first of its kind effort in our area will offer an opportunity for businesses to share experiences, resources, and best practices with a clear focus on compliance and the enhancement of worker safety.
The Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to be involved in the formation of MCSEC. We will continue to look for any opportunity to add value to membership in the Chamber by sponsoring mutually beneficial programming."
