2007 Minority Procurement Seminar
Thursday, September 27, 2007
9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Grand Hyatt Hotel, Washington, D.C.

The Plymouth Chamber has received a letter from Robert A. Brady, Chairman of the Committee on House Administration announcing the above seminar. He states, 'There are thousands of opportunities for private contractors to provide goods and services to the Federal government each year. This is an excellent opportunity for you to learn about the numerous opportunities for business owners to bid on projects offered by various government agencies. This day-long seminar will focus on the contracts let by the offices of the Architect of the Capitol, the Chief Administrative Officer, the General Services Administration and the Small Business Administration. The sessions will teach you how to qualify for the small and minority business contract lists that some agencies maintain. It will also provide you with information on how to navigate the Federal contracting and bidding process. Because registration is limited, participants will be admitted on a first come, first served basis. When the registration is full, you will be placed on a priority list for the next seminar. If you have any questions, please contact Sterling Spriggs or Janice Crump of my staff at (202) 225-2061.'

The Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce office is located at 120 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. We have the Registration Form for this seminar. If you want to register for this seminar, you may pick up a copy from the Chamber office or call us at 936-2323 and we will fax it to you. You may also have a copy of the complete cover letter that came with the registration form.

Incentives, Resources and Financial Tools Workshop

Refresh your knowledge of State and Local incentives, resources and financing programs for Indiana businesses by attending a free workshop to be held on August 22nd, 2007, from 3-5 p.m., in the 3rd floor Chamber Briefing Center, in the Commerce Building, at 401 East Colfax Avenue, South Bend.

As a financial service provider, professional service provider, or an economic development officer, it is important to learn how these programs and services will enhance your customer service and differentiate you from the competition. State and Local Representatives from various agencies and organizations will discuss the services, programs, resources, financing tools and incentives that can be of benefit to your Indiana-based customers. Most businesses lack awareness of all that is available. You'll learn how to introduce your client to the relevant incentives, resources and tools. We encourage a member of your organization to attend and bring this knowledge back to be shared with all.

This workshop will also be helpful for members of the general business community that are interested in learning about the programs that are available to them, either directly, or through advisors. For instance, did you know that (1) the City of Plymouth and other communities in Marshall County help both new and expanding businesses grow through a tax abatement program directed at industrial, technology, or major office-related projects, or that (2) the City of Plymouth encourages facade improvement through a revitalization initiative that rebates up to 20% of the cost of the exterior renovation to the business owner.

Please plan to attend this workshop to learn about the programs that may benefit the needs of your business now and in the future.

Reservations are required and can be coordinated by contacting:

LaFree Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy
2934 Miller Drive, Plymouth, 574-941-2200
LaFree Physical Therapy began their business in December 2001 taking pride in their one on one patient care. As a team, they feel that communication between all parties is a vital part of their care and the patient's successful rehabilitation. The goal is to educate each patient in pain management, injury prevention, and self-help strategies such as home exercise programs to maximize total restoration and ultimately to improve the patient's quality of life. Since December 2001, they are pleased to have helped so very many people! To show their appreciation for all past and current patients, they have scheduled a Patient Appreciation Day, on August 14th between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 PM. Join them in their event for hot dogs, chips, beverages and ice cream sandwiches. For more information, contact Pam Carlberg at 941-2200.

What is This?
PLYMOUTH BUSINESS CONNECTIONS CHAMBER NETWORKING COMMITTEE
This past year, several of this Chamber's members asked about starting a 'business connections' group.

You have heard of a 'soft opening'... where a business opens and operates for a period of time to work out the details of their operation and then 'kicks it in gear'... well, it is gear kick'n time.

The Plymouth Business Connections group has been meeting for breakfast, inviting others to participate on a one to one system. These breakfasts have been posted on our online calendar and printed out for the NewsMonth each month. They have also organized a few Business After Hours. Now there is a direction, a 'plan in place' - a Mission statement.

The Plymouth Business Connections' mission is to harness the community's economic power by:
  • Exchange of business information, ideas and support.
  • Build new business relationships and generate business opportunities.
  • Exchange leads, referrals, and experiences.
  • Connecting with people for help or information and gain expert resources.
  • Share knowledge to help reach your business goals while meeting the people who can help you get there.
Join them for breakfast and the after hours events and learn how the network can work for your business.

All Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce members are invited to check this out. Your input and ideas will be welcomed. Invite non-Chamber members to the breakfasts and welcome them to join the Plymouth Chamber to continue the benefits of Chamber membership.

Watch for the Plymouth Business Connection breakfast announcements on the Chamber's online calendar www.plymouthcalendar.com and/or contact Angie Stults at 935-4108 or by email angie.stults@edwardjones.com for more information.
