The Chamber President's Message
Jim Wagner, 2001 Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce President and Public Affairs Manager for Sprint presents his address to our membership and information regarding the new Sprint DSL service.
President's Message
I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and is looking forward to a very Merry Christmas.
2001 has been a difficult year for many people throughout this great nation: the Trade Center disaster, the downturn in the economy and the war in Afghanistan. The American people have rallied to overcome these devastating difficulties.
The Plymouth Chamber and many of its members have struggled due to the slow economy. Our membership has not grown at the pace we forecasted. But trust me, we are a strong organization and a strong community.
The recent announcement of "Salad Time" moving to our community tells me the executives of this company saw something in Plymouth that would encourage them to invest 9 million dollars. Our tax structure, our way of life, our business climate and most importantly our people were the main selling points.
Our Chamber has been the voice of the Plymouth business community since 1982, and is still the voice for progressing, improving and bringing together businesses for a thriving community. As in the past, the Plymouth Chamber continues to operatively represent your business on issues such as education reform, work-force initiatives, economic development and infrastructure enhancements. We look forward to working with our members to achieve solutions, making Plymouth the best place to live, work and raise a family.
The Chamber has accomplished much because of the dedication and hard work of hundreds of volunteers. These volunteers share the belief that Plymouth is an "All American City," a community that continually improves because of a strong alliance between the business community, government and the local populace.
Along with volunteers and the knowledgeable and hardworking Chamber staff, our Chamber will continue to prosper as long as we, the members, are energized and involved in activities.
This is an exciting time to be the Chamber president. Together with business and community, we have accomplished much and look forward to accomplishing even more in the coming year.
The Board of Directors and Chamber staff thank all of you who help in the many endeavors of the Plymouth Chamber, for your time and efforts.

DSL Service
The number people accessing the Internet literally doubles every 100 days creating an ever-growing traffic jam. The solution is Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service. The DSL service provides a dedicated connection, not a connection shared with your neighbors like a cable modem. Plus, with DSL, you can talk on the phone or send a fax at the same time that you download files.
Sprint FastConnection DSL will soon be available to many of its customers in the Plymouth area. Sprint FastConnection DSL offers residents and businesses "always on" high-band width internet access at lightning-quick speeds.
Here are some of the advantages of DSL:
- You can eliminate a second phone line. DSL allows you to leave your internet connection open and, at the same time, place or receive phone calls and faxes.
- The speed is much higher than a regular modem (1.5 Mps vs. 56kps).
- DSL doesn't require new wiring; it can use the phone line you already have.
- The monthly cost of Sprint FastConnect DSL service includes a subscription of Earthling, Sprint's Internet Service provider.
Sprint's high-speed, dedicated service coupled with state-of-the-art multimedia content, distinguishes Sprint's offering. Customers should be aware that DSL is a distance sensitive technology. Subscribers must be within 18,000 cable-feet or 3.4 cable-miles of a telephone company's central office, or wire center, in order to receive DSL service.
Sprint will announce its plans for DSL rollout in the Plymouth area during a luncheon, in association with the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce.
This luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, January 16, 2002 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Christo's Banquet Center. Special invitations to this event will be sent to Chamber members.
