Chamber Annual DinnerThe Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominees for their annual awards program honoring citizens who have made, by their selfless service, contributions for the betterment of our area communities. The awards presented are for: Distinguished Citizen: awarded to a person who has made positive contributions to the quality of life in the Plymouth area. - Previous Distinguished Citizen Recipients: 2001 Chuck Glaub 2002 Bishop William C.R. Davis 2004 Penny Lukenbill These honors may be given to people who qualify through lifetime achievement or extraordinary contributions in the past year. A five-person committee, separate from the Chamber, will select the Distinguished Citizen based on the nominations turned into the committee. The Distinguished Citizen award also includes a $500.00 check from the Chamber donated in the Distinguished Citizen's name to a charity of the recipient's choice. Each award recipient will receive a plaque and another plaque will be located at the Chamber office with award winners' names posted. Executive Director, Doug Anspach, explains, "Our community is home to a number of individuals who have made Plymouth a better place to live, work and raise a family over the past 30 - 40 years. I believe we need to recognize those people in an appropriate public venue." The Heart and Hands, Inc. Scholarship Fund was created to provide financial assistance to a new student enrolling at Ancilla College who was previously a student of Heart and Hands, Inc. The couple is closely involved with Heart and Hands, Inc. - Tony is the president and Mary serves as the corporate secretary. "We don't know how many potential scientists, doctors, or other leaders are sitting in our classes at Heart and Hands, but this scholarship may plant the seeds for the realization of these dreams," said Mr. Wood, who attended Ancilla himself in 1993. Heart and Hands, Inc. acts as a catalyst between its students and the community by providing or finding answers to students' and others' needs in the immigrant community. In the last three and a half years, the organization has (helped) taught well over 600 students at its Plymouth Welcome Center and over 100 students at its Bremen Welcome Center.
