Marshall Co. Historical Society / Museum
123 N. Michigan St., Plymouth 574-936-2306; www.mchistoricalsociety.org
The Marshall County Historical Society is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2008! Throughout the year, the Museum will be hosting monthly special events to mark the occasion. The wide variety of activities will provide something for everyone. A Genealogy Workshop in the spring; a reprise of Kiddies Day in the summer; guest experts, Bill Snyder, Tim Manuwal and Lorna Miller highlighting Archaeology Month in September, and former residents of Marshall County haunting the museum for our Ghost Walk in October. The year will finish with a magnificent Old English Banquet in December. In addition to special events, six new exhibits are opening at the museum this year, including one about the Plymouth Fire Department, which is celebrating its 150th Anniversary this year. Three events are being jointly planned by the Fire Department, Marshall County Convention & Visitors Bureau - which is housed in the historic Old Firehouse - and the Marshall County Historical Museum. The celebration begins right away, with an exhibit about the history of the Marshall County Historical Society, followed in February by the perfect winter exhibit 'Quilting Comfort'. All three floors of the museum, will feature quilts from the early 1800's through today. The Friendship Quilting Group will demonstrate Quilting Live on Saturday. Watch them actually creating quilts and even take a few stitches yourself. Pick up a copy of the event calendar at the Museum, the Plymouth Public Library, the Life Enrichment Center on Harrison Street or print one from our web site at www.mchistoricalsociety.org.
