Presidential Addresses

From:Barry Chase
  Outgoing Chamber President
I want to thank the Chamber members for allowing me to serve as your President these last two years. I especially want to thank the staff for all their hard work and making this job both fun and easy.

I want to leave my impressions and observations as to how I feel our Chamber benefits my business and Plymouth as a whole:

A BUSINESS PARTNER: professional men and women who volunteer to provide local leadership for local business. They are people like us.

A PAIR OF EYES: specialized observers who maintain watch on legislation which affects every citizen in the community, alert to be sure the "quality of life" of community is maintained.

A VOICE: of business which represents your views on legislation, employment, trade and many other issues.

A PAIR OF HANDS:researching, preparing letters, developing information, preparing publications, folders, and pamphlets to tell the story about your business and the Plymouth community as a whole.

A SALES OFFICE: telling the real story daily about Plymouth and what it has to offer in the way of business services, housing, recreation, education, demographics, and how great your community really is.

A FRONT OFFICE: the show window of your community....a place where visitors gain their first impressions of the soundness and hospitality of Plymouth.

  Newly Elected Chamber President
During the December Chamber of Commerce Board meeting, the new officers were elected. The Administrative Vice President is Susie Reinholt, Plymouth Public Library, the Internal V.P. is Bill Schlosser, Plymouth Foundry, and the External V.P. is Mike Burroughs, Lake City Bank. I was nominated and elected to be your President for the upcoming year. Could we have had a confusing ballot? I'm sure what put me over the top must have been several hanging and possibly a couple of pregnant chads. Never the less, I am looking forward to the challenge and serving our members as your Chamber President...I will not request a recount.

I would like to introduce myself to all the members who may not know me. I have been with the Sprint Corporation for almost 30 years. My present position is Public Affairs Manager which has enabled me to work with many Chamber organizations throughout the state. I have been Administrative Vice President of the Plymouth Chamber the past two years. I have lived in Plymouth since 1984. My wife Susan is a teacher at Menominee School and my two children, Julie 24 and Scott 21, are both products of the Plymouth School Corporation.

The Chamber leadership has worked diligently to make sure that the Board of Directors is diverse in vocation, experience and background. Many occupations, education, banking, retail, utilities, and manufacturing, are represented on the Chamber Board. This diversity is specifically designed to create an all encompassing representation of our ever expanding Chamber membership. During the past two years, our outgoing Chamber President, Barry Chase, has represented the Chamber Board as a great example of the leadership, whose decisions and leadership capabilities help to define the Chamber. And with this diverse Board, all business women and men volunteering their time, there is one common goal, to make Plymouth a better place to live and do business.

As we stand at the dawn of the 21st century, we can be certain, as ever, of one thing - change ! I will assure you the Plymouth Chamber is here to assist the Plymouth business community in shaping and managing the changes that will come. With strong member support, we can insure that the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce will continue to be an important contributor to our great community and to the outstanding quality of life we enjoy.

I want to wish all of you a very Happy and Prosperous New Year!
