Manchester College's alumni teacher of the year.
Daniel Tyree, a 1976 Manchester College graduate, received the Warren K. and Helen J. Garner Alumni Teacher of the Year award November 18 for his significant contributions to education.
Tyree teaches English, speech, theater, and broadcasting at Plymouth High School, a position he has held since 1979. Currently he also holds an adjunct faculty position in the speech and mass media department at Indiana University at South Bend, where he earned his master's degree in education in 1981.
Tyree also has been active in high school forensics and theatre. He has coached speech teams for the past 22 years, in addition to directing 34 children's plays, 25 full-length plays, and co-directing 16 musicals.
Tyree is the recipient of numerous awards and has been the driving force behind many advancements in the curriculums of schools where he has taught.
Manchester College's education department annually selects an outstanding teacher graduate for this award for his or her exceptional service to the profession, their deep concern for individual students, and for their ability to inspire learning.
