Marshall County WorkOne Express Center, which includes ADEC/Career Directions, DWD/Unemployment, Goodwill Industries and WDS/Workforce Development, has moved from 1800 Jim Neu Drive to 316 Kingston Road, Plymouth. (moving from the Industrial Park area to the mall near Martin's Super Market.) The phone and fax numbers stay the same. The move took place on June 7 to provide more office space and parking.

Lana Ball has been named President of the Purdue Alumni Club of St. Joseph Valley. The Purdue Alumni Club is a not-for-profit organization that raises scholarship money for local students. The St. Joseph Valley Club is ranked first among all Purdue Alumni Clubs in the country for the amount of money awarded to local students. This year the club awarded $14,000 to 20 area high school and current Purdue students attending either a regional campus or the main campus down in West Lafayette. As President, Lana will oversee the 25 Board of Directors and the 3300 alumni in St. Joseph County. Lana graduated from Triton High School in 1988 and from Purdue University in 1992. She is the Principal Broker for Ball Realty Group in Plymouth.

Beginning this summer, IUSB Off-Campus Programs will offer placement testing for incoming students in Plymouth. Exams will be given in reading, English, and mathematics. Tests will be administered on Saturday, July 13 and August 10, at the Old Plymouth Fire Station located at 220 North Center Street, starting at 8:30 AM. Fort Storage, with 65 units, was built by Gary Scott in 1987 and was originally called the Mini Storage Co. Joe Mersch purchased the business on April 18. Joe has been a resident of Plymouth for the past nine years. Joe is a Quality Manager at Indiana Heat Transfer Corporation in Plymouth. The name of “Fort Storage” was decided on due to the shape of the storage building. This facility is different than most in that all the doors face the inside and the outside walls make a barrier with only one entrance into the area. This layout is reminiscent of the old days when forts were secure and safe havens.

Plymouth Day at the Cove is Tuesday, August 13 at 6:00 PM. The gates open at 5 PM. During July Sidewalk Sales Days, July 11-13, Swoop will be in Plymouth handing out free tickets to the Plymouth Community.

Effective June 1, 2002 Microflect and PiRod will be merged into one business unit that will be known as the Communications Division of Valmont Industries. The divisional headquarters will be in Plymouth. Doug Kochenderfer, Vice President and General Manager at Microflect will be relocating to Indiana to serve as division Vice President and General Manager. He will be in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Communications Division. Doug brings to PiRod an extensive background in operations management and manufacturing.
