Gene Reese, Director of Athletics and Student Development at Ancilla College, recently spearheaded the effort to name a new Athletic Director of the Year in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA). The MCCAA, which boasts a membership of 19 schools, elected Gene Gifford of Muskegon Community College as their 2007 recipient. Reese, who received the award in 2006, served as chairman of the selection committee and will continue to serve next year as a board member. According to Reese, Gifford is a very deserving selection for the distinction. Gifford is currently entering his 14th year as Athletic Director at Muskegon, along with his duties of 26 seasons as the men's basketball coach. Reese said, ìGene was selected for all of the extra time and effort he put into the MCCAA in the past year and his stabilizing leadership.î Reese has been at the helm of Ancilla College athletics since the College joined the NJCAA in 1995. Under his watch, the department has grown to include eight varsity sports, with golf and men's soccer taking the field in the 2007-2008 academic year. He also has overseen the addition of the Charger Fields Complex, which serves as home to baseball, softball, and soccer, and the LifePlex, which hosts men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball, as well as the training facilities for all Ancilla College student-athletes.
