March 1998Job Fest '98WDS of Northern Indiana and the Marshall County Workforce Opportunities Committee (made up of local businesses and school personnel as well as community service and government agencies) is sponsoring an annual JOB FEST. "Job Fest" is a one day event that brings together youth, between the ages of 16-21, and area businesses to one location. Last year's "Job Fest" attracted 79 youth participants and 14 businesses. Forty-one youth were hired after participating in "Job Fest."There are two main goals for "Job Fest." One goal is to allow area businesses the opportunity to pre-interview a large number of youth from this age population and fill positions within their organization. At the same time, employers will save money by reducing advertising costs and reduce new employee turnover. The reduction is based on the fact that the participant will have the opportunity to learn about a wide range of area businesses and narrow their work goals and interests. The other goal is to allow area high school and college students a chance to learn more about local businesses, jobs available to them and the requirements necessary to keep those jobs. "JOB FEST '98" will be held on Saturday, April 11th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Plymouth Menominee Elementary School. If you have any questions or would like additional information regarding "Job Fest '98," please call Bill Powell at Workforce Development Services in South Bend 219-288-8336. |
