Great Used Computer Drive - Donate and Make a Difference !

May 9 & 10 - 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Grand Rental Station - 400 N. Kingston Road, Plymouth

If you have old computer equipment taking up space, or plan on purchasing a new computer system in the near future, here is the opportunity to have the old become “new” for a not-for-profit organization or for children in need.

Partnering with Ancilla College, Grand Rental Station and WTCA Radio, Sprint has planned two festive days of giving, learning and winning. The giving starts with you, by bringing in your old stagnating computer equipment to the designated collection site, Grand Rental Station. Then Sprint will give all the collected equipment to Ancilla College's technical program. The SCILL Center (Starke County Initiative for Lifelong Learning) in Knox will refurbish the used computers. Then through school-associated programs, this multi county effort will facilitate placing the “new” refurbished equipment with selected not-for-profit entities and children in need. You, as the donor, will receive a tax voucher for your donated equipment.

If you have not had the opportunity to see the new Sprint DSL in action, here is your chance to learn about this new form of internet service. There will be live demonstrations of Sprint's FastConnect DSL service on computers provided by Quadratech Solutions, presented by Jason Eckert, Sprint DSL Implementation Manager. Interested participants can sample Sprint FastConnect DSL and receive a free 20 minute pre-paid calling card and be entered into a drawing to win a variety of prizes. On Friday, May 10th, the Grand Prize drawing will be held for two tickets to the Brickyard 400.

WTCA's Tony Ross will have a live remote set up interviewing Star Kraschinsky, Events/Sponsorships Manager, and Jim Wagner, Public Affairs Manager with Sprint. In addition to giving, learning and winning - perhaps a prize, certainly the experience, don't forget to snack on the free hot dogs.

Now you have taken care of your old computer equipment, what to do with your old cell phone?

Starting Monday, May 13, wireless users may drop off their old cell phones at the office of the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce, located at 120 N. Michigan St., between the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM., Monday through Friday.

This service to the community is in support of Sprint's “call to action” for wireless users nationwide to donate their previously used wireless phones to help people with disabilities.

Through Sprint's Project Connect, developed in conjunction with the Wireless Foundation, donated wireless phones will be recycled and resold with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Easter Seals and the National Organization of Disability (N.O.D.), two key organizations that serve people with disabilities. The monies raised through this program will help these two organizations provide services and create opportunities for people with disabilities.

Sprint is also making an initial $200,000 contribution to help support these organizations' efforts. Through Sprint's Project Connect, the Wireless Foundation will give back 35% of the resale value of donated phones to Easter Seals and N.O.D. The remaining proceeds will provide funding for the Wireless Foundation's philanthropic programs and cover the administrative costs of Sprint's Project Connect. Sprint receives no portion of the money raised. Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin is serving as the national spokesperson for this project.
