IMPORTANT NOTICE
Regarding Indiana Personal Property Tax Returns Due on May 15, 2003
The Indiana Property Tax Return Forms for the March 1, 2003 assessment date change the way that assessed value of depreciable property is calculated on Form 103 - Short Form.

Rather than splitting depreciable property into four pools based on depreciable life, the current short form groups all of the depreciable property into one pool. Because of the percentages that are applied to asset costs by acquisition year, there are instances where the resulting assessed value is 25% to 50% greater than would result from using the old four pool system.

It is possible to continue with the four pool system by filing Form 103 - Long Form rather than Form 103 - Short Form. Because of the possible significant difference in the assessed values determined on the two forms, many taxpayers will pay higher than necessary property taxes in 2004 if they file the short form.

Each taxpayer that has been filing the short form should review the difference in assessed values determined on the short and long form, and file the long form if that results in a lower assessed valued. If a short form has already been filed, an amended return on the long form should be filed

The Challenge Course: Learning By Doing
The past four years, Culver Academy has utilized a state-of-the-art challenge course to foster teamwork among students, faculty, and staff. We have integrated experiential challenge course units into the curriculum and have partnered with academic departments to assist in the learning process. The challenge course facilitators also have joined with athletic teams to set a tone of teamwork and cooperation for thier athletic seasons.

We want to provide this same opportunity to others in our community and would like to offer the challenge course to you as a resource in your work wth young people. The program is flexible, and a facilitator will work with you to craft a program that is suited to your own programming needs, whether it is a half-day adventure or a multi-day experience! Our outdoor program is open from Culver Spring Break though Thanksgiving, and an indoor low element program is available through the winter months.

The challenge course sits on two beautiful, heavily wooded sites. We have more than 20 "ropes course elements," both high and low, to meet almost any programming need. The course sits away from the main campus so that a group can focus on its task while enjoying the peaceful surroundings, but it is close enough that the group can take advantage of several other campus offerings.

On the Culver Challenge Course, participants learn by doing. One of the strengths in our programming is the use of our course to promote a healthy decision making process, a teamwork mentality, communication within a group, and personal initiative. In addition, we tackle related issues such as trust, respect, fear, and commitment, but we do it all in the context of adventure and fun.

Please call for additional information or to arrange a visit to our course. You may call Kim Kickert at (574) 842-8269, or via e-mail at: kickerk@culver.org.
