NAIA 2008

From the desk of: Pat Bayley

It seems like only yesterday that we crowned Oklahoma City University as the 2007 NAIA National Men's Golf Champion. Last year's event was extremely successful as indicated by the number of compliments we received from all of the participants and coaches.

The event will once again be hosted by the Plymouth Community at Indiana National's East Course at Swan Lake. This year's event will begin on Monday, May 12 with a practice round and the championship will be contested May 13-16th. All rounds are open to the public and we encourage you to come out and watch some of the brightest future golf stars!

A successful national championship tournament takes quite an effort and volunteers are always needed. Golfers and non-golfers alike are welcome! Anyone wishing to volunteer their time may contact the chamber office or Indiana National Golf Club at 574-936-9798.

As always we are looking for sponsors to insure we provide the teams from all over the United States and Canada the finest experience possible. Sponsorship are available from all levels. Please feel free to contact Pat Bayley at Indiana National with any questions about these opportunities.

Lastly, we want to thank you for your support of this very important event. It is nice to show why the NAIA Championship Committee picked Plymouth to host one of its National Championships.

Plymouth Public Library
210 N. Center Street, Plymouth, 574-936-2324; www.plymouth.lib.in.us
The Plymouth Public Library is collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald Family Room located on the third floor of Memorial Hospital in South Bend. The library is in its second year of collecting for this worthy cause and extend their heartfelt appreciation to the entire community for joining in the effort. Every year RONALD McDONALD kicks off the Summer Reading Program with one of his fabulous shows and this year, Ronald is coming on June 11. Each year the library has presented Ronald with many, many boxes of pop tabs and would like to do the same this year. Time is growing shorter and the library needs many, many more to top last year's amount and request the everyone keeps bringing in pop tabs to make this year another huge success for the Ronald McDonald Family room. The Family Room is a convenient and comfortable oasis for families who may be some distance from their homes, with seriously ill or injured children receiving hospital care. Children are comforted knowing that family members are close by, helping them feel more secure and aiding in their recovery. Again thanks to all the pop tab collectors and keep up the good work and make 2008 an outstanding year for Ronald's kids!

Rabies is a deadly disease caused by a virus that can infect humans, pets, livestock and wildlife. Preventing the disease in animals provides the best means of protection to humans. Under Indiana law, all dogs, cats and ferrets older than 3 months of age must be vaccinated against the rabies virus. State law allows the use of 1-year and 3-year vaccines according to approved label directions. (NOTE: Some localities throughout the state may have stricter local laws.) The vaccine must be administered by a licensed and accredited veterinarian only. Since 1962 there has been 182 dogs that tested positive for rabies, the last cast was reported in 1989.
