Greenways . . . A Natural Success . . .
Dear Business Owners:
The City of Plymouth is launching the Plymouth Greenways plan, a mammoth effort of public and private alliances and partnerships that will benefit our citizens today and for generations to come.
Our Greenways will be a terrific opportunity to show Plymouth's guests that Plymouth cares about it's citizens, their quality of life, and the City's natural beauty. This will help to keep Plymouth economically competitive and a premier destination for business and tourism. I encourage you to get out and support your
Greenways. They truly will link our neighborhoods to nature.
Sincerely, Mayor Jim Yeazel
WHAT ARE THE PLYMOUTH GREENWAYS?
The Plymouth Greenways are your opportunity for fun. Whether you're into recreation, fitness or conservation, you'll find the Greenways will be a great way to get away from it all while being close to everything! A greenway is a corridor of protected open space managed for conservation, recreation and non-motorized transportation, connecting people and places together. The Plymouth Greenways system will span more than five miles within Plymouth and Marshall County and will include interconnected asphalt and natural trails. When completed, the Plymouth Greenways will encompass the Yellow River, Shuh Ditch, and connect acres of open spaces, park land, school land, conservation greenspaces, and destinations. Your Plymouth Greenways will link neighborhoods to nature.
WHY SUPPORT THE PLYMOUTH GREENWAYS? There is truly something for everyone on the proposed greenways. With the continued development and growth of Plymouth and Marshall County, there's a high demand for self directed recreational activities. Greenways are a perfect, affordable solution. They're fun, safe, scenic, free, convenient, and expandable as the city grows. They're like getting away without going away. Of course, Greenways also link destinations and leave a legacy of nature appreciation for generations to come.
WHO WILL USE PLYMOUTH GREENWAYS?
The Greenways are being planned so that everyone can have a day of adventure. Walkers, runners, skaters, cyclists, and folks who simply enjoy nature can take advantage of this recreational opportunity. Most of the 6 ft. to 12 ft. wide trails also meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards for the safety and enjoyment of all. Whether you're out for a Sunday stroll or training for the Mini-Marathon, you'll find the Plymouth Greenways will be what you'll need, when and where you need it.
WHAT DOES LINKING NEIGHBORHOODS TO NATURE REALLY MEAN? Your Greenways will be a carefully planned system that will link Plymouth neighborhoods to each other, natural areas, parks, and the city. If you're headed for a park, the museum, or other popular destinations, even if you're headed to work or school, you will be able to take a Greenway. The Greenways will be the best way to enjoy Plymouth, your time and nature, all at once!
BE A PARTNER ON THE PATH TO PLYMOUTH'S PROGRESS: You can lend your support by talking to friends, neighbors and business associates. Write letters of support to Mayor Jim Yeazel, the Plymouth City Council, and the Plymouth Park Board. Attend Park Board Meetings and ask to be on a committee to help in the planning process. Greenways are a natural success of public and private efforts!
