The Marshall County Human Resource Association, a non-profit organization, was formed in March 1996. Human Resource Professionals in the Marshall County area recognized a need for an association dedicated to the education and growth of area managers dealing with the local workforce. Their membership includes business owners, consultants, doctors, recruiters, Human Resource Professionals, operations managers, line supervisors and assistants to name a few. The group meets once a month during the year, except July. The meetings are held at the Brass Rail in Plymouth. The meetings are a working lunch, beginning at 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM. An educational program is presented during lunch. Topics have included OSHA regulations, Department of Labor law updates including wage and hour and Family Medical Leave, emergency response, Red Cross, performance appraisals, Workforce Development Services including unemployment law updates, the history, guidelines and future of 401Ks, and training the workforce. Membership dues to join the association are $25 per year to cover speaker costs throughout the year. The cost of lunch is $10. Meeting dates will be posted on the Chamber's net Community Calendar plymouthcalendar.com. The topic for October 23rd's meeting is Immigration & Naturalization Issues for Employers. The speaker will be David Seamore from Tim Roemer's office.

Ancilla College Names New President

The Ancilla College Board of Trustees have announced the appointment of Dr. Robert M. Abene as the new president of Ancilla College effective October 1, 2002. Dr. Abene, who received his Doctor of Education from Loyola University, becomes the fourth president in the history of Ancilla College.  He replaces Dr. William J. Shustowski, Jr., who resigned earlier this year to accept a position at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Dr. Abene served as the President of Marian College, Indianapolis and as the Vice President and Chief Administrator for the Division of Student Development at Cardinal Stritch University, Milwaukee. Dr. Abene, his wife Pat and son, Andrew, who is a high school freshman, look forward to moving to the Plymouth area from Indianapolis. Ancilla College is a private, two-year, co-educational, liberal arts college sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ and located on the grounds of the PHJC Ministry Center, Donaldson, IN

SaladTime
SaladTime is Open - New Plymouth Facility - 189 New Jobs

Lt. Governor Joe Kernan, Plymouth Mayor Jim Yeazel, State Senator Bill Alexa and State Representative Gary Cook joined company officials and invited guests at the official opening and ribbon cutting of SaladTime's Plymouth facility, Wednesday, September 18th. The company invested $12.7 million to renovate the former Procter & Gamble building located at 2050 N. Oak Rd., and will bring 189 new jobs to Plymouth by 2004. SaladTime is a leading processor, packager and distributor of pre-cut, pre-washed bagged salad and will serve clients in the central and mid-Atlantic states from the Plymouth facility.

Lt. Governor Kernan stated, “This is a solid fit for Plymouth and for Northern Indiana and we couldn't be more pleased to have SaladTime here. By adding this facility, the community is further diversifying its economy, while creating good jobs. I couldn't be more proud of the work the city, the Plymouth Industrial Development Corporation and the Indiana Department of Commerce did to make this happen.”

Marketed under the SaladTime brand name, the company serves a variety of groceries throughout the nation, including Kroger's and Wal-Mart, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of California-based Tanimura and Antle, Inc.

WJUK is a new FM radio station in Plymouth. It is a station which will cover most of Marshall County. The potential listening audience is about 35-40 thousand. The station will broadcast local news, music, sports and talk. The music will focus of the 50's and early 60's. The main target audience will be people over the age of 50. This not-for-profit station will work with local schools to give them hands-on on the air training. Students will be able to gather, write and read news and sports. There will be a 1 to 2 hour block on Sunday afternoons for students to create their own programming.
