Blanca Gallardo from Plymouth has been chosen as the recipient of the Heart and Hands, Inc. Scholarship at Ancilla College. Gallardo, who received the $500 award, is a Liberal Studies major at Ancilla and has been using the services of Heart and Hands in Plymouth since 2002. The Heart and Hands, Inc. Scholarship Fund was created in December 2004 by Tony and Mary Wood of Bourbon to provide financial assistance to a student enrolling at Ancilla College who was previously a student of Heart and Hands. Tony, an alumnus of Ancilla College, served as president of Heart and Hands, and Mary as the corporate secretary of the organization. Tony unfortunately passed away this summer, and his wife Mary was desirous of continuing the scholarship opportunity because it would be "what Tony would have wanted." "Blanca is a good representative for Heart and Hands students," said Mrs. Wood. "I am pleased to continue offering the scholarship."
