BUSINESS BRIEFS

Here is a special treat for our members. Bill and Debbie Ballog's daughter, Chara, was one of ten winners in an essay writing contest sponsored by Indiana Association of Cities and Town. The contest was for all Indiana 6th graders with 2,050 entries statewide with 106 entries from Lincoln Junior High and St. Michael's Schools. Chara won a $250 savings bond from IACT and $100 was presented to her from Northern Indiana Mayor's Roundtable with $500 presented to Lincoln Junior High School with which to make purchases in Chara's name. Chara will be a 7th grader at Lincoln this school year. Bill has the Farmers Insurance Group/The Ballog Insurance Agency, 106 1/2 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, (219) 935-9177.

If I Were Mayor I Would,   By Chara Ballog

If I were mayor, I would let my town council and public know that I believe Plymouth, Indiana is a great place to live. Plymouth is a small town that has many unique qualities, including a quaint downtown, an expanding library, an historical museum, and a yearly festival called the Blueberry Festival. The Blueberry Festival is held in Plymouth's Centennial Park. Since half of a million people attend, we want our community to look fairly attractive.

To make Plymouth more "eye catching" and attractive, I would put large rocks in different areas of town. Then I would have sculptors come in and sculpt well-know people from Indiana's past such as, David Letterman and Larry Bird. As mayor, I would convince the community that Plymouth will become known as Plymouth "Rock", Indiana. Along with all of our new rock formations, we would go on a community effort of lining our streets and outer town limits with flowers.

I, as mayor, would have the town council vote on one specific flower to plant. As mayor, I would suggest that our town flower would be the marigold. The marigold is a hearty flower that blooms all summer. Not only would Plymouth be known for the massive rock formations, it would also be known for its streets lined with gold. Marigolds that is!

I, the mayor of Plymouth, Indiana, would make sure that anyone that came to visit our town would have a memory that would last a lifetime.
