2006 United Way Campaign "What Matters" In the day-to-day rush of our busy lives, do you ever think of the many volunteer organizations that help our fellow citizens here in Marshall County? As we pass each other on the street, we wonder how many of you know the vital involvement of the Marshall County United Way is for the success and survival of these organizations. Your United Way insures these organizations run responsibly and serve a true need in our community. This is important to you and your family, if for some reason you would need their services.As we begin the 2006 United Way Campaign, joining county co-chairmen Dr. Dan Bates and Jessica Oliver, will be over 35 volunteer citizens who will give much of their time for the next 3-1/2 months. This year's county goal of $515,000 will help to provide financial support for 16 Member Agencies and 27 youth and social service programs right here in Marshall County. The Department of Justice will no longer pursue litigation and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will issue refunds of tax on long-distance service for the past three years. Center Street, Ste C, Plymouth; 574-935-4511; www.centerforhospice.org The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. will begin two Living With Loss Groups at its Plymouth office, 112 South Center Street, in September. The first group will begin on Thursday, September 7 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and the second group will begin on Tuesday, September 12 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM. The groups, which will meet for eight weeks, provide grief education and caring support to adults dealing with the death of a loved one. Dr. May comes to the College after serving as the vice president of academic and student services at Eastern Shore Community College in Melfa, Virginia. Dr. May is a native of Vincennes, Indiana. He possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science from Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tennessee. He went on to obtain a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from East Tennessee State University. Dr. May received his Doctor of Education degree in higher education administration from Indiana University, Bloomington. Dr. May has also served as president of Louisburg College in Louisburg, North Carolina. Prior to his presidency of Louisburg College, Dr. May held the position of vice president and dean of academic and student services at Waycross College in Waycross, Georgia. He has also been dean of faculty at Tusculum College; director of the testing and orientation program at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis; and again at IUPUI, he served as an assistant professor of education. Dr. May is joined by his wife, Joan. Dr. and Mrs. May are the parents of three sons who continue to reside in Virginia.
