The October 15 Governor's 2007 INShape Health Summit, Live Healthy, Work Healthy, is co-sponsored this year by Purdue University. The audience we would like to attract to the Summit are CEOs of businesses, industries, hospitals, clinics, superintendents of schools, leaders of faith-based groups, and other executives who have a primary say in the health options offered to their employees.

The Summit keynote speakers and workshops will focus on the economic benefits of a healthy workforce and the choices companies can provide their employees to help them develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Hot topics in worksite wellness have been selected to equip businesses for today's challenges, including strategies for the implementation of wellness programs, and methods for business to improve their bottom lines-how to reduce health care costs and utilize tax breaks.

Purdue Extension is encouraged to recruit a team of people from local business, industry, health care, schools, and faith-based organizations to participate in the Summit. Please contact Karen Richey, Marshall County Extension Director, at 935-8545 if you are interested in attending.

Old Fashion Sidewalk Sale Days
and Customer Appreciation Days
AND "Dog Days of Summer"

Old Fashion Side Walk Sale Days cover Thursday through Saturday, September 13-14-15. This has been a fall event for many years. Two volunteer Chamber committees comprised of individuals representing Chamber member-businesses, have created two special activities to enhance the Side Walk Sales atmosphere.

Customer Appreciation Days is an expression of thanks to our community from the Chamber member businesses, with volunteers giving away free hot dogs and Coca-Cola beverage. This event, part of Side Walk Sale Days in the past, has been greatly expanded by the Chamber Retail Merchants Committee by adding to this year's event a concession trailer that will travel to all three locations highlighting the expanse of the Chamber member businesses and thanking customers from all areas of our community. As an additional "thank you", music will be provided at all three locations thanks to Opie's Deli.

Last year the Ambassador/Membership Committee created "Dog Days of Summer"- scheduled for Thursday, September 13 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Martin's Super Markets location. This is a fun event for pet owners and their wonderful dogs. The event includes a Doggie Parade, Dog/Owner look-alike, Best Costume, Best Trick, and Funniest Face. Prizes will be awarded. There are some rules: All dogs must have proof of rabies inoculation (tag), dogs must be on leashes at all times and should not be unattended or tied up in any manner, no female dogs in any stage of heat will be allowed to participate and the owners need to come prepared to clean up after their pet. These rules are for the protection and safety of pets, owners and audience.

Customer appreciation-days locations are as follows:

Thursday, Sept. 13 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM
Martin's Super Market Location
865 East Jefferson Street

The "Dog Days of Summer" Registration is from 4:30 to 5:00 PM
