Street Project Progress

Baker Street - Phase 1

This 0.46 mile project is located on the east side of town. The scope of work for this project includes curb and gutter streets and a new storm sewer system. This area was identified as one of the high growth areas within the city. This Federal Aid Project is under construction and should be completed in the fall of 1997. The project is expected to be open to the school by mid August and temporarily open for the Blueberry Festival.


Baker Street - Phase 2

This 0.50 mile project is located on the east side of the city. It is a continuation of the Baker Street Project (Phase 1) which was split into phases because of federal funding requirements. The scope of work for this project includes curb and gutter streets and a new storm sewer system. This area was identified as one of the high growth areas within the city. This Federal Aid Project has been designed and is planned for construction in the summer of 1999.

Markley Drive

This 0.65 mile project is located on the northwest side of the city. The street is one of the main east-west arterial streets in the Plymouth Industrial Park. The scope of the work for this project includes:
1) The improvement of Markley Drive for alignment;
2) the intersection improvement of Markley Drive and Western Avenue; and
3) the intersection of Markley Drive and Oak Road.
This project is currently being designed and land is being acquired. The project is scheduled for construction during late summer and should be completed during early fall of 1997.

Corbin Street

This 0.13 mile project is near the geographical center of the city. The scope of work includes the construction of a new street between Fifth Street and Berenbrook Street. Earth work is being performed at this time and paving is scheduled to be completed in late summer, early fall of 1997.

Oak Road

This 1.6 mile project is on the west side of the city. This street is the main north-south thoroughfare in the industrial park. The scope of work includes the widening of the street from two to four lanes north of Harrison Street along with the installation of curbs and gutters and a new storm sewer system. This project is in the final stages of design. Land acquisition is expected to begin in the winter of 1998 with construction beginning in the fall of 1998.

Oak Hill Avenue

This 1.66 mile project will connect the southern portion of the city to the southwestern portion. Approximately 0.8 miles lie within the city limits in which the scope of work will include:
1) Street improvements;
2) installation of curb and gutter; and
3) a new storm sewer system.
The remainder of the project lies within the Marshall County jurisdiction and the scope of work included:
1) Street improvements;
2) new street construction;
3) bridge construction; and
4) intersection construction.
This project has been designed and is in the final stages of land acquisition. This new road will allow traffic to go from South Michigan Street to West State Road 17 without using the Pierce Street bridge. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 1998, this is a county project.
