St. Joseph Hospital Marshall County is breaking ground for a new $3.3 million Cancer Center. Construction of the new cancer center at Saint Joseph's Hospital of Marshall County officially started with the official groundbreaking for the $3.3 million facility August 14. The 10,700 square foot building will be located on the northeast side of the hospital. The facility will house both radiation and chemotherapy treatment programs, making it one of the few centers in Indiana to have both methodologies under the same roof. St. Joseph's officials anticipate that the center will be operational by April 1999. The center is expected to draw patients from Marshall and other surrounding counties. The center is projected to have over 5,000 patient visits in its first year and 7,000 patient visits by the fifth year. The cancer center will incorporate into its program The Association of Community Cancer Centers' Standards for Cancer Programs and the Cancer Program Standards from the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer. The center's sister facility at St. Joseph's Medical Center is accredited by the American College of Radiation Oncology and also participates in Radiation Therapy Oncology Group clinical trials through its affiliation with Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA. Affiliations with these programs are being studied for this facility. The Mind / Body Cancer Program, offered by Mind / Body Medical Institute of St. Joseph's Medical Center, will also be available. The Mind / Body Medical Institute is affiliated with Harvard Mind / Body Medical Institute. David A. Taber, MD, with Michiana Hematology / Oncology, will be the lead physician for the medical oncology and chemotherapy program and Thomas Troeger, MD will continue his regular visits. Steven Gregoritch, MD, with Radiation Oncology Associates of Michiana, will be the lead physician for the radiation therapy program.

Gibson Insurance Group - located at 333 East Jefferson Street in Plymouth announces that Kevin L. Weber, Account Executive in the Employee Benefits Division of Gibson Insurance Group, has been named Manager of the Employee Benefits Division according to David D. Gibson, President and Chief Executive Officer. He will assume administrative responsibilities in addition to his production and account service role. Weber holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Western Michigan University.

Lindenwood Conference & Retreat Center - located in Donaldson would like to announce that it is now on the worldwide web. The web site features schedules of upcoming programs and retreats held at Lindenwood along with conference and retreat center services. Pictures of the campus and meeting rooms are displayed for the convenience of those who have not visited Lindenwood. The web site will be periodically updated with new programs and retreats as they are developed. Lindenwood's web site address is www.poorhandmaids.org/lindenwood. Lindenwood, sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, is an ecumenical center offering meeting spaces and innovative programs for spiritual growth, enrichment and faith development. Marshall County Hospice - located at 112 South Center Street, Suite C, Plymouth is planning to conduct its 3rd Annual "WALK FOR HOSPICE" on October 11, 1998. Last year 364 walkers raised over $35,000 in support of the work with the terminally ill and their families. Such strong support is humbling and deeply gratifying.
