Maygen & The Birdwatcher at Wild Rose Moon
“Music is Our Love Language!”
So says lead singer, Maygen Lacy of the musical group Maygen & The Birdwatcher, coming to Wild Rose Moon for a performance and live taping of the Wild Rose Moon Radio Hour on Saturday, September 20th, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Maygen Lacey and Noah Neumann began as a duo and quickly realized their musical vision needed more. At the heart of their sound is a collective of talented musicians. Multi-instrumentalist Nik Pellinen adds depth with his banjo, lap steel, electric guitar, and harmonies. At the same time, Jesse Moravec brings a vibrant touch with mandolin and harmonies, and Evin Haukos soars on fiddle. Bassist Joe Barron and drummer-percussionist Peter Anderson round out the ensemble, crafting a fresh take on bluegrass-infused folk. It’s a hyphenated hybrid that can come only from a seasoned—and tightly knit—band.
Their new album, The Americana Dream, is a journey of a record that finds the group expanding its horizons in multiple ways. The record follows the group’s2021 debut, Moonshine, which helped them share stages with fellow genre luminaries like Sierra Ferrell, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Grace Potter, and was awarded Album of the Year by the Midwest Country Music Organization. Along with co-producer John Fields (Brandi Carlile, Soul Asylum, Miley Cyrus), Maygen & The Birdwatcher’s new album represents a deep love for the Americana music and the future of the planet itself. The online magazine, Music Mecca, said this about one of their most beautiful songs: “Where Good Things Grow” is a lovely folk-fueled ballad chock-full of classic acoustic guitar rhythms and stunning fiddle melodies, bolstered by lead singer Maygen Lacey’s rich vocals. Lines like “Take care of the land / It’ll take care of you / Tend to its roots / It’ll tend to yours too,” offer a simple reminder and message to the listener, and they’re delivered in a way that is both resonating and pleading.”
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at ASK for Flowers, wildrosemoon.com, or by calling 574-276-1185. Audiences attending the show will be part of the Wild Rose Moon Radio Hour audience and will be able to see the show in later broadcasts on WNIT TV PBS Michiana Channel 34.1 and hear it on WVPE Public Radio, 88.1 FM. Both shows air on the first Saturday of each month.
